So far I have discovered that he was kicked in the abdomen by men off duty and was hospitalised off and on until he was discharged in March 1915.However in December 1916 when he marries Elsie Jane Adams in Aberdeen it clearly states on the marriage certificate that he was currently stationed in France and is a gunner for B Battallion in the Machine Gun Corps.
